On Saturday October 23, 2021, The Catawissa Borough Police Department received a report of attempted phone scam. The scammer was claiming to be a Lieutenant Shepard with The Catawissa Borough Police Department.
Please note that there is NO Lt. Shepard affiliated with this department. The victim said the phone number was The Catawissa Borough Police Department’s number (570-356-7102). The fake “Lt. Shepard” tried to get the victim to bring money to meet him at the Weis Markets within the Borough.
Catawissa Borough Police Department is searching for 31-year-old James S. CALIGIURI who is wanted on charges for Domestic Violence and Child Abuse that occurred in July 2021.
The victim reported that she had been strangled, kicked and punched by CALIGIURI as well as her 3-year-old child of which CALIGIURI is the father. The child was hit so hard on multiple occasions that it left marks on the child’s body.
CALIGIURI was born in Russia and speaks with an accent.
This department is investigating a hit and run accident that occurred on this date at the 800 block of State Route 93 located in North Centre Township. The hit and run vehicle is identified to us as being a black in color cruiser style motorcycle that will be missing a foot rest. Anyone with information surrounding the identification of the motorcycle operator/owner is asked to contact this department at 570-759-0354 or submit a tip through this Crime Watch Portal.
All area roadways are passable. Crews are out clearing them of any accumulating snow and spreading anti-skid material. Currently there is only light snow falling but we do have fog in the area as well. Some roads to have a combination of snow and slush on them.
