On Saturday February 29, 2020 at 10:22 AM The Bloomsburg Police Department was dispatched to the Rails Trails area located near Irondale Rd. for a suspicious item believed to be a possible explosive device.  Preliminary observations by Bloomsburg Police Officers on scene found the item to be consistent with a “Pipe Bomb”.  Bloomsburg Police requested the assistance of the Pennsylvania State Police Hazardous Device and Explosive Section.  State Police Technicians were able to render the device safe and confirmed the device was constructed with PVC pipe material and gun powder.  They advised the device was constructed in a manner consistent with manufacturing an improvised explosive device. 

​The Bloomsburg Police Department collected numerous items of potential evidentiary value which will be sent to Pennsylvania State Police Lab in an effort to identify the person or persons responsible for manufacturing the device.
