The Town of Bloomsburg is currently seeking full-time Patrol Officers. Bloomsburg is a historic town and is the County seat for Columbia County, PA with an approximate population of 12,711 and encompasses 4.7 square miles. The position of Patrol Officer encompasses a broad range of duties incumbent with municipal policing to include uniformed patrol, traffic enforcement, crash investigations, criminal investigations and community engagement. Its location along Route 11 and less than 5 minutes from two exits of Interstate 80 positions Bloomsburg as a hub of activity for residents and visitors alike. The County seat, Bloomsburg, is a "college town" and strives to provide a welcoming, inclusive, and equitable environment for all. Located in the heart of the Susquehanna River Valley, Bloomsburg boasts a rich economic history and has a diverse economy thanks to Autoneum, Bloomsburg University (estimated enrollment of 7,800 students), Geisinger-Bloomsburg Hospital and Kawneer. Bloomsburg has a landmark Town Park with many acres of recreational activities, a municipal airport and is home to the Bloomsburg Fair. The Town’s police department includes 1 non-bargaining Chief of Police, 3 full time union sergeants and 13 full time union police officers and one non-bargaining Law Enforcement Assistance Administration (LEAA) located at the police station along with a parking department consisting of four full time non-bargaining employees located at Town Hall.
The ideal candidate would be an individual able to integrate into an active, progressive department. He or she will embrace the philosophy of community-oriented policing; and possess strong communications and relationship building skills. The Department offers a robust field training program to ensure the selected candidate is given the wherewithal to flourish and enhance his/her professional development.
Bloomsburg Police Officers shall demonstrate the highest standards of ethical behavior and be viewed as respected members of the community. They are expected to maintain up-to-date knowledge of state laws; town ordinances; department policies and procedures; trends in policing and best practices.
The successful candidate(s) must be comfortable operating as part of a diverse community and will be expected to leverage every opportunity to build trust and confidence in the department. They must present a professional posture; and remain composed when subject to the intense stress sometimes incumbent with law enforcement duties.
