As a result of the recently emplaced bicycle lane on Market Street, traffic patterns and parking areas have been revised. Motorists are advised the bicycle lane is in place curbside on the west side of Market Street from 7th Street to 12th Street. Parallel parking is permissible adjacent to the bicycle lane (between the bicycle lane and traffic lane) in areas designated by signage and roadway markings. Parking is not permitted within the bicycle lane; which is reserved for the use of bicycles and pedestrians. Parking is also prohibited in areas designated by diagonal “hash stripes” on the roadway; as well as in front of driveways. Bicyclists are reminded all provisions of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code pursuant to operation of pedal cycles and Ordinances of the Town of Bloomsburg remain in effect; including a duty to yield to pedestrians walking in the bicycle lane. Bicyclists also have a duty to provide audible signal when overtaking and passing a pedestrian therein. Motorists are reminded to exercise due caution while adjusting to new traffic patterns and abide by the posted 25 MPH speed limit.
Enforcement of parking restrictions will begin on Monday, August 29, 2022.
