On Friday, August 20, 2022, a Cleveland Township Resident received a phone call from a male claiming to be the resident's grandson. The male said he was in an accident and had stitches in his lip so he couldn't speak right. The male caller said he was arrested because he struck another vehicle with a pregnant woman in it and he needed $25,00.00 for a bail bondsman to prevent him from going to jail. The resident was instructed to phone the "lawyer" for the caller and provide the lawyer with a transcript number. During the calls, the resident realized the "lawyer" was being vague with her answers and the male caller refereed to the resident by a name his grandchildren do not call him by. The resident discontinued the calls. The resident did not provide any personal or banking information to the callers and did not send any money as requested.
Everyone is reminded of these types of scam calls and the many others like them that continue to plague the area. Contact your local police department if you have concerns with the calls or if they are real or not.
