PPL Electric Scams
Area residents have recently fallen victim to scammers claiming to be calling on behalf of PPL Electric, claiming that the customer's bill is past due and requesting the customer to provide bank account information over the phone or to purchase prepaid gift cards to use to "pay" the bill. We'd like to remind residents to remain wary when speaking with someone claiming to be from a utility company. Scammers can often times make the phone number they are calling from appear to be legitimate when in fact is not. Scammers also tend to pressure customers into making quick decisions.
If you feel that you are being contacted by a scammer, hang up the phone and call your utility company via their official telephone number.
