SCAM Attempt - Amazon

A Cleveland Township resident recently received an automated call, purported to be from AMAZON. The recording stated it was verifying a recent purchase and if the resident recently made a purchase over the amount of $300.00 they could hang up. If the purchase was not made, the resident was being instructed to call another number. This is more than likely another scam attempt in order to fraudulently obtain personal and/or banking information. The link below, through the FTC website, shows a similar scam that has been occurring.

Here are some tips taken from the FTC that can help you to protect yourself from these type of calls.

They’re trying to steal your personal information, like your account password or your credit card number.

If you get an unexpected call or message about a problem with any of your accounts, hang up.

  • Do not press 1 to speak with customer support
  • Do not call a phone number they gave you
  • Do not give out your personal information

If you think there may actually be a problem with one of your accounts, contact the company using a phone number or website you know is real.
