Two 19 year old Elysburg men will be charged for violating the PA Governor's recent Stay at Home Order. The names of the individuals can be released once the charges have been filed at MDJ Craig W. Long's Office.
The two men along with (2) juveniles were "out just driving around to hang out" at approximately 1:50 am today, Saturday April 4, 2020. The on duty Locust Township Officer, who was on patrol in Numidia, observed the operator of the vehicle making several traffic violations. Upon being followed by the officer, the operator took a "back road" at a higher than normal rate of speed, possibly in order to evade the officer. Once the vehicle was stopped and all occupants were identified, the officer also located vape pens and several cartridges containing THC concentrated, cannabis oil. Additional charges are pending.
The Locust Township Police Department takes pride in using a common sense approach to violations of the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and local ordinance laws. We are urging all residents in this region to follow the PA Governor's Orders and that of the PA Department of Health. We will not be out stopping motorists for compliance purposes, however, all are encouraged to use common sense during this pandemic. All non-essential business and travel orders and guidance have been made available and widely distributed through local and regional news outlets as well as via official social media outlets. With your compliance of the non-essential business and travel orders; we can all lessen the risk and slow down the infection rates of the COVID 19 virus.
On behalf of all local health care workers and first responders, we thank you for your cooperation and support that has been shown to us.
Stay healthy and safe!!
