2013 Domestic Violence Award

2013 Domestic Violence Award

On January 13, 2014 the Columbia County District Attorney, Thomas E. Leipold, presented Officer Scott Sienkiewicz with the “2013 Domestic Violence Award”. Sienkiewicz was nominated for this award because of an investigation that occurred on July 18, 2013. On that date, Berwick Police had received a report of a robbery involving a wanted male who also had a PFA against him. The plaintiff in the PFA was the victim of the robbery. Officers began searching for the actor and it was Officer Sienkiewicz who located him. The actor attempted to flee the area and at one point began actively fighting with Officer Sienkiewicz in an attempt to elude capture. Officer Sienkiewicz was able to secure the actor into custody. Officer Sienkiewicz collected the necessary information and evidence to proceed with an arrest after speaking professionally with the victim and witnesses involved in the investigation. Officer Sienkiewicz provided comfort and care to the victim, immediately notifying the victim of all her rights. Officer Sienkiewicz then transported the actor to the Berwick Hospital for medical treatment. The whole time at the hospital the actor was belligerent and Officer Sienkiewicz remained patient with the actor and ultimately provided safety for hospital staff and calmed the actor enough for transportation to the county prison. Officer Sienkiewicz exhibited the core values of the Borough of Berwick Police Department, he displayed courage, patience and professionalism and he deserves the recognition and appreciation embodied in this award.
